SPRING CONFERENCE

The two-day 'Spring Conference', which will take place from May 8 to 10, 2022, in the Spanish City of Ceuta, is an event focused on the study of technological advances and environmental management measures for the maritime sector. So this call is of the greatest importance for all of us who are part of this sector —shipping companies, ferry operators and public entities—, and therefore interested in contributing to the necessary optimization of means and resources to achieve the least environmental impact of our industry, in the marine environment.

Ceuta is a particularly interested and ideal enclave to establish this Observatory of environmental management within the sector, because it is one of the areas in the world that supports the highest density of maritime traffic (more than 100.000 vessels cross the Strait a year, which represents 10% of total international traffic), comparable to the English Channel, the Strait of Malacca, the Suez Canal or the Panama Canal.

The complete agenda would be the following:

On Day 1, May 8: Reception of Delegates, there will be a reception with a cocktail especially focused on welcoming to the Autonomous City by local authorities, and networking.

On Day 2, May 9: Celebration of the Conference day, with a round table discussion in the morning with the shipowners and representatives of the Western Mediterranean shipping companies, a working lunch with the delegates, and the Agenda of speakers and panel of experts from the Environmental Observatory during the afternoon. Finally, the Farewell Dinner with the closing of the event by the President of the Autonomous City of Ceuta.

Registration for delegates and attendants is now open until the maximum capacity (200 attendants) is reached —so don't miss the chance to book your free tickets asap through our site in the platform:

In order to give impetus to the purpose of the Conference, its promoters have agreed that there will be no profit motive in the organization of this event, so attendance is totally free. Likewise, and in this sense, the donation to Mercy Ships of the resulting collection has been agreed, after paying all the expenses of the Spring Conference.

The travel options will be made available to the delegates shortly, in order to guarantee maximum ease of arrival. The City of Ceuta, a unique European enclave in North Africa, is a Spanish city with good ferry and fast ferry link from the port of Algeciras. It has also an air connection, from the Malaga hub airport (Heliport of Malaga) or from the Algeciras Heliport. The list of hotels available to delegates will be provided.

PORT OF CEUTA AWARD

The Port of Ceuta will present its '1st Port of Ceuta Award for Excellence in Environmental Management' within the event. The award will be delivered by the President of the Port of Ceuta together with the special mention, to the private company or public body that during the current year has best represented the spirit of the values and principles of protection of the Marine Environment.

In order to create a lasting and valuable icon for its annual Award, the Port Authority of Ceuta, has commissioned a bronze sculpture from the renowned Ceuta-born artist Ginés Serran-Pagán. The statuette chosen is that of Calypso, which the artist also made and gave in his day to the City of Ceuta, currently in the Plaza de la Constitución.
