Is it time to get involved for our Marine Environment?

Aren't you tired of so much empty talk? It's time to get involved and take action! But just as training for training's sake is pure mindless narcissism, action for action's sake also leads to barbarism and emptiness. Effective action is not possible without proper training and guidance. Because Success Loves Preparation —Amat Victoria Curam. And let's be clear: sustainable development will not be possible either, without having business viability. We need each other in this challenge. There is no one left over.

Fortunately, we are not alone, nor do we start from scratch, but there are many initiatives that have already taken the step, and with which we want to count on in this permanent Observatory of the Port of Ceuta for environmental management and the broad protection of the Marine Environment. And of which the next Spring Conference of 2023 will be the starting point. In this section the actions, reports, plans and studies will be published, in short all the Documents of the Environmental Observatory of the Port Authority of Ceuta.

Fortunately we are not alone ... because we are counting on you!

Ceuta Port Authority  —Sustainable Port.

True to its commitment to sustainable development that the Port Authority of Ceuta has been proud of for years, this institution integrates the environmental variable into its management model, in order to contribute positively to the protection of natural wealth, the environmental quality, progress and the well-being of its surroundings. With this objective always present, this entity has an Environmental Management System in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard since 2006 (included in an Integrated Management System for Quality, Environment and Safety and Health at Work) and with an Energy Management System in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 50001 standard since 2016. The Environmental Management System was adapted to the requirements of the ECOPORTS Port Environmental Review System (PERS) model, obtaining the renewal in 2020, and the of the EMAS Regulation in 2020, having met the requirements of both provisions satisfactorily during the year.

Additionally, the Port Authority has adhered in 2019 to the 2030 Agenda of the AiVP (the worldwide network of port cities), within the framework established by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In accordance with the adoption of these management tools, this body continuously develops measures to mitigate the impact derived from port activity on its surroundings. These measures are aimed at both the Port Authority's own activity and that of its stakeholders, highlighting the effort made in raising awareness and controlling external activities carried out by the Port Community.

European "Copernicus" Program —Europe's Eyes on Earth.

The Port of Ceuta continues its work to contribute to the sustainability of our port area. In this case, we are collaborating with the European Program "Copernicus" —European Union's Earth Observation Program, which looks after our planet and its environment for the maximum benefit of all European citizens.

The Port of Ceuta has had, for years, a system for continuous monitoring of water quality through continuous meters located at strategic control points, managed by the company GESTEMA SUR. Recently, in collaboration with them, these satellite data provided by "Marine Copernicus" of the ESA (European Space Agency), have generated a continuous and holistic quality surveillance system of the entire port water surface.

This project, a pioneer in Europe, reinforces Puerto de Ceuta's commitment to the environment and her conservation in Ceuta.
